When attempting to retrieve security footage, many times the owners of the camera’s did not even know an accident occurred in their vicinity. Therefore, video may be saved for only a short period of time before it is overwritten. Therefore, it is important to obtain the video shortly after the accident occurs.
And it is common for eye witnesses to not come forward when they witness an accident, particularly when other people appear to be helping at the scene. This is called the bystander effect and hiring a PI to canvass the area for potential eye witnesses could be valuable to a case.
